Questions about Pledging ΑΕΠ?

After Rush ends, we offer bids (a formal invitation to pledge) to select individuals that we think will be a good fit in our Brotherhood.  If you are offered a bid, and choose to accept it, you will be inducted as a Pledge of our chapter.

The Pledge process is a period of 5 weeks during which you will be taught how to be a valuable member of the Fraternity.  During this time, pledges get to know the brothers and their fellow pledges very well through various social, educational and philanthropic activites and by spending a lot of time together.  Pledges are asked to learn things about the Fraternity, including local and national history, Fraternal rituals, and will become familiar with the social and moral values we are founded on.

Pleding is meant to be a useful, rewarding, and most importantly fun time.  Successful pledging leads to your becoming a full Brother of the Fraternity, which is a lifetime membership and commitment.  The goal of the Pledge Education Program is to educate, and instill a sense of brotherhood.

The pledge program is limited by AEPi national to 5 weeks, and does not include or condone hazing of any kind.

What will I have to do to pledge?
Your pledge program will include various activities that will introduce you to the fraternity and its members.  We'll have social activities, time with brothers, and weekly study sessions that help ensure everyone's grades continue to meet the highest standards. The goal is to create future brothers who will contribute to our organization by teaching valuable leadership skills and by forming incredably close, unbreakable bonds of brotherhood between you, your pledge class, and the rest of the brotherhood.

Does it cost anything to pledge?
Pledges, like all brothers, will pay semesterly dues that collectively cover the Chapter's operating costs. Pledges will also need to pay a one-time initiation fee to our National organization to cover the costs of your insurance, Brother Pin, pledge paddles and other supplies.  If you are interested in pledging but have financial concerns, just let our Rush Chairman or one of our officers know - there are many ways we can help resolve financial issues.

What if I still have questions?
Students: feel free to direct questions about our Fraternity and about Rush and Pledging to any of our brothers.  Stop by at one of our open rush events, stop by our floor on the weekend, or use the contact forms on this website to contact our officers or rush chairman.

Parents: Please feel free to direct your questions or concerns about your son participating in our Rush and Pledge processes to any of our chapter officers. We'd be more than happy to provide you with any additional information you need.

ΑΕΠ Zero-Tolerance Hazing Policy:

Both the University of Rochester, and Alpha Epsilon Pi National have strict policies in place with regards to hazing.  Hazing of any kind is neither condoned nor tolerated by this or any other chapter of ΑΕΠ.  We comply with these regulations fully.  If you (or your parents) have any questions or concerns, please contact one of our chapter officers.

Alpha Epsilon Pi Hazing Policy:

No chapter, colony, student or alumnus shall conduct nor condone hazing activities.  Hazing activities are those defined as:

"Any action taken or situation created, intentionally, whether on or off fraternity premises, to produce mental or physical discomfort, embarrassment, harassment or ridicule.  Such activities may include but are not limited to the following:  use of alcohol; paddling in any form; creation of excessive fatigue; physical and psychological shocks; quests, treasure hunts, scavenger hunts, road trips or any such activities carried on outside or inside the confines of the chapter house; wearing of public apparel which is conspicuous and not normally in good taste; engaging in public stunts and buffoonery; morally degrading or humiliating games and activities; and any other activities which are not consistent with academic achievement, fraternal law, ritual or policy or the regulations and policies of the educational institution, or applicable state law."

Fall Rush events are open to all Sophomore, Junior and Senior undergraduate men. Spring Rush is open to all undergraduate men. University policy does not allow freshmen to Rush until their spring semester.
